APP

Character: Mikoto Suoh
Series: K (anime)
Character Age: 24
Job: Head Barbecue Specialist

Canon: Like every other anime protagonist, Isana Yashiro's your average Japanese high school student who just wants to know who he is. Unfortunately, so do other people—including the vengeful and driven Kings of Shizume City, who are pretty convinced that they've got him on tape murdering a member of the Red Clan HOMRA. Forced onto the run with his pet cat-slash-naked-mutant-girl and the swordsman who came to execute him, Shiro struggles to unravel the mysteries surrounding his memories. Is he the Colorless King's successor? Where did his amnesia spring from? And could he really have been the one to kill Totsuka Tatara?

Among the Clan Kings, with all their great powers and plans, the Red King seems the simplest: a man of few ambitions and fewer words. Mikoto calls a spade a spade, a bastard a bastard, and a little girl's pet horse "Basashi". He's deadpan, often brusque, a mooching serial napper—and uninclined to think too much overall, whether it's about plans or consequences. Opponents? Burn them down. Need to track down a clansman's killer? Get sent to prison and wait for him to find you. While he can act flashy and almost feckless—going borderline-nuclear in battles for the hell of it, granting power to any punk willing to show loyalty to HOMRA, refusing to step down from kingship even though his continued reign may overload him and destroy the city—ultimately Mikoto's only desire is to protect and indulge his Clan. Not because he's their King, but because the only place he knows to be is among them.

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
An interview? ... haah, that's fine. Suoh Mikoto. Twenty-four years old.

Doesn't that cover it?

Why are you joining our happy community?
Didn't look that happy on the way in... Well—not like I'll be staying long. Somebody tipped me off that the guy I'm after might be hiding in here. Unfortunately, she couldn't get too detailed about where I'd find him. Somewhere in the corn, she said. Guess that'll make things easier. All those fields... none of you're gonna need that much corn, right?

Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
... No such thing.

Ah? Isn't that simple enough? If you were any good at handling something like that, it wouldn't be a crisis. ... Probably'd help if you could see things coming. But it doesn't matter. If you can pick yourself up, and everyone's still with you after it's over, then you did all right.

Guess I've done that before. Maybe, then.

Would you be able to dispose of the flesh of the undead? How?
Is that the kind of problem camps get? ... No wonder nobody shows up to these.

Burning works for most things. If that's what you want, though, you might wanna change the job description I got. Even with what I heard about the soup on Tuesdays, could be a problem if somebody thought they were getting barbecue to go with it.

If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
Aaaa. Depends on how hungry I am, probably. And how much meat's on the dog.

... you should've expected that one. Making judgments about that kinda thing in advance... it's all crap. You'll never really know until you get there, right? How far the guy is from the dog. If it's somebody you know. Who the dog belongs to. How hard it'd be to pull up either of them. In the end... the whole thing comes down to which one you see first. Doesn't it?

Do you have a five year plan in mind?
Sounds like a lot of trouble to go through for a plan. Anything that takes that long's probably wasting time.

If you could choose to bring three objects to a desert island, what would you bring and why?
A jacket, a bottle of Barbancourt... a boat with a full tank of gas. Wouldn't want to spend my whole life there—but there's a guy I know who'd get pretty angry if I took a bottle that high-end out of his bar. A deserted island's probably the only place I could finish one of those in peace.

And it doesn't sound so bad, an afternoon off. As long as I got back in the end.
